Biography & Education
About Mr John Hines
Mr Jones Hines qualified at Liverpool University Medical School in 1985. He trained in surgery and urology in Liverpool, Birmingham and London. Initially he was consultant urologist at Whipps Cross University Hospital. In 2009 he also started sessions at St Bartholomew's Hospital and in 2010 at University College London Hospital.
Since 2019 Mr Hines has worked exclusively at University College London Hospital in the urology department. His clinical special interest are prostate cancer and bladder cancer treatment and diagnosis. He maintains a practice in open radical surgery and also takes part in gynaecological pelvic exenteration surgery.
Since 2012 Mr Hines has been the urology cancer pathway director for North East London and North Central London and is currently the clinical lead for the urology expert reference group in central London. He is also the leader of the urology pelvic cancer specialist MDT north central London.
Mr Hines has an identified interest in postgraduate and undergraduate medical education and has held a variety of posts including Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) Surgical Tutor at Whipps Cross Hospital, Associate Director of Medical Education at Whipps Cross, Training Programme Director, North London, Member of the Court of Examiners Executive, RCS.
His current education activities include Member of the Court of Examiners, RCS (supervising examiner), Chair of the Intercollegiate Committee for Basic Surgical Examinations, Royal Colleges of Surgeons of the UK and Ireland, Chair of Core Surgical Training in London and Academic Lead for Quality Assurance, UCL Medical School.
Mr Hines research interests are medical education and novel drug delivery systems to the bladder.
