Biography & Education
About Mr W James Smellie
After training in Cambridge and London as an undergraduate, Dr James Smellie spent 6 months in the USA as a surgical trainee before returning to continue training as a surgeon in London, Oxford and Lille, France. His research at the Royal Marsden Hospital was awarded a Doctorate from the University of Cambridge from research in the Immunology department of the Royal Marsden Hospital. He has been the senior endocrine and thyroid surgeon at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London for the past 25 years. Dr Smellie is also lead for hernia surgery have a particular interest in robotic hernia surgery, redo inguinal; female and umbilical hernia surgery. He has extensive laparoscopic experience and uses
robotic techniques for adrenal surgery. Outside of work he loves to ski as a family.
