Biography & Education

About Dr Alex Everitt

Dr Alex Everitt studied Medicine at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, before undertaking his general medical training in Newcastle, London and Bristol. He then undertook his PhD Thesis (An MRI Study of the Causes & Consequences of Epilepsy) at the Institute of Neurology, University. He completed his neurology training in London, based at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital, the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (Queen Square), and King’s College Hospital.

Dr Everitt was appointed consultant neurologist at St Mary’s Hospital Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust) in 2003. He undertakes weekly epilepsy and general neurology clinics and a monthly HIV neurology clinic, participates in the daytime acute neurology attending and out-of-hours on call rota.

Dr Everitt has expertise in the management of epilepsy, first seizures, unexplained blackouts & funny turns, neurological infections and neurological problems in people with HIV infection. He has 19 years of clinical experience as a neurology consultant managing Parkinson’s disease, tremor, headache (including migraine), dizziness, inflammatory conditions of the central nervous system (including the diagnosis and early management of multiple sclerosis and neurosarcoidosis), neuro-muscular problems (including myasthenia gravis and peripheral neuropathy), neuro-ophthalmological presentations (including optic neuritis, idiopathic intracranial hypertension and double vision) and neuro-oncology (brain tumours, paraneoplastic disorders).

Dr Everitt is a keen and experienced teacher of clinical skills in neurology, and is the Unit Training Lead for junior neurology trainees at St Mary’s Hospital. His outside interests include road cycling, walking his dog, and going to see live jazz at Ronnie Scott's club.
