About Mr Anthony Antoniou
Mr Anthony Antoniou is currently a consultant colorectal surgeon at St Mark’s Hospital, The National Bowel Hospital. He offers a comprehensive service in colorectal surgery and proctology, specialising in primary, locally advanced and recurrent colorectal cancer, including HIPEC. He is also fully trained in general surgery and provide on call commitments to the general team. Mr Antoniou’s main interests at present are minimally invasive surgery, laparoscopic/ robotic, and complex cancer surgery.
Mr Antoniou graduated from Cambridge University in 1992, and completed his registrar training in the South East Thames region culminating in a Senior Registrar position at King's College Hospital. While training in London he was affiliated to St Mary’s Hospital where he undertook a laparoscopic fellowship at the Hamlyn Unit, prior to his consultant appointment at The Royal Marsden Hospital in 2006. Mr Antoniou achieved the FRCS in 1996 and was awarded an MS in 2006. After completing five years as a Senior Clinical Lecturer at The Institute of Cancer Research/ The Royal Marsden Hospital he took up a position at St Mark's Hospital, The National Bowel Hospital.
Mr Antoniou was instrumental in building the colorectal unit at The Royal Marsden Hospital, a world leading cancer hospital, and this unit now treats local, national and international colorectal patients. He also played a key part in introducing laparoscopic / minimally invasive colorectal surgery to The Royal Marsden, developing its endoscopy unit and promoting a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care for enhanced outcomes.
Mr Antoniou’s current interests include robotic colorectal surgery and surgery for locally advanced and recurrent cancer.
