About Mr Roberto Casula
Mr Roberto P. Casula currently has the position of Head of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London, where he was initially appointed as a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon in 2001.
He was the Lead clinician in the Robotic Cardiac Surgical program at St Mary’s Hospital Paddington from 2003 to 2009.
Mr Casula has been the Lead Clinician in the Minimal Access Cardiac Programme at Hammersmith Hospital since 2011, and specialises in a comprehensive range of cardiac surgical minimal access and traditional procedures.
Since conducting his first open-heart operation in 1990, he has operated on thousands of cardiac patients and has pioneered advancements in robotic-enhanced, off pump surgical revascularisation and minimal-access cardiac surgery in the U.K.
Mr Casula has delivered post graduate teaching for over 20 years and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London.
He has conducted clinical research in surgical innovation, and has researched the impact of minimal access surgery in frail and elderly surgical patients.
He has published more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has been the cardiac editor of a Minimal access and Robotic CT surgery atlas and textbook since 2012.
