About Professor Barbara McGowan

Professor Barbara McGowan is a consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology. She studied Biochemistry at Oxford University and Medicine at the Royal Free Hospital in London. She was awarded a PhD from Imperial College for investigating mechanisms of appetite control.

Her areas of specialism include including thyroid disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome, hypogonadism, adrenal disease, pituitary disease, metabolic disorders and hormone imbalance.

She has a special interest in the management of severe and complex obesity. She is also research active in the area of pharmacotherapy for obesity and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.
