About Mr Alvin Chen
Mr Alvin Chen is a specialist Hip and Knee Consultant surgeon based at King's College Hospital. There he treats both complex hip and knee trauma and performs routine surgeries for sports injuries and long-term orthopaedic conditions.
Mr Chem began his medical training at the prestigious King's College London School of Medicine, before graduating with an additional degree in Law (LLB) from Queen Mary and Westfield University. His career as a surgeon has been mainly based in London, including a post at the world-renowned Royal National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Queen's Square (NHNN).
During his surgical training he passed the Bar to become a Barrister and is a called member of Lincoln's Inn (BVC). He ultimately chose to pursue a career in Orthopaedics because of his personal experience of how patients' quality of life could be improved by Orthopaedic surgery, and because of his love for cutting edge techniques and equipment.
As both a surgeon and an academic with a further Doctorate degree in research, Mr Chen has a strong respect for evidence-based medicine, and passionately believes in the value of scientific research in choosing the best and safest operation for each patient. He firmly believes in listening to and working with his patients as individuals to find the best solution for them, whether it be operative or non-operative, drawing on his many years of experience and expertise.
Mr Chen's legal background has lent itself to a thriving medicolegal practice, with consultations available both in and outside London. He is a strong believer in the importance of quality medical education to inspire the next generation of surgical trainees and ran for 7 years the highly-regarded biannual FRCS of the revision course at King’s College Hospital.
