About Professor Georg Auzinger
Professor Georg Auzinger is a Consultant and Reader in Intensive Care Medicine at King's College London and the Department Chair for Critical Care at Cleveland Clinic London. He has 21 years experience of working as a Consultant in the NHS, and in a number of clinical leadership roles.
Professor Auzinger led King's College Hospital Liver ICU from 2007 until 2015, an Institution with a worldwide reputation for clinical and academic Excellence. He subsequently became Clinical Director for Critical Care at King’s, a position he held until 2019 when joining Cleveland Clinic London.
He was awarded the title of Professor of Medicine with Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine in 2021. His academic interests focus around a broad spectrum of applied clinical Research topics in the fields of Liver Failure and Transplantation and extracorporeal life support - ECMO. He published more than 100 articles and book chapters in high impact medical journals such as The Lancet, JAMA, Journal of Hepatology, Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Nature Communications and Critical Care Medicine.
Professor Auzinger has a special interest in extracorporeal cardio-respiratory assist and Liver Failure. He set up the King’s ECMO service in 2012, which he continues to co-direct to date. King’s was awarded ELSO Platinum Centre of Excellence status in 2019; the service has made pioneering contributions around ECMO support in Acute Liver Failure and Bridge to Liver Transplantation.
