About Mr Paul Cathcart
Mr Paul Cathcart is one of the most experienced prostate cancer surgeons in the UK, having performed over 2,000 robotic prostate cancer procedures. He continues to undertake a high volume of cases each year, performing approximately 200 robotic prostatectomies annually.
He specialises in nerve-sparing prostate surgery, an advanced technique focused on preserving the nerves surrounding the prostate to give patients the best possible chance of maintaining function and quality of life following treatment.
Paul also has a specialist interest in salvage surgery for men with recurrent prostate cancer following primary treatments such as radiotherapy, brachytherapy, HIFU, and cryotherapy. Over a decade ago, he established a dedicated clinic for recurrent prostate cancer, which now receives referrals from across the world. This has led to him becoming one of the most experienced surgeons globally in this highly complex area.
He is the Prostate Cancer Lead at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London, where he runs a high-volume prostate cancer service. He is also a former Training Programme Director for the London region.
Paul is actively involved in research and has published over 100 papers in leading international journals.
Outside of his clinical work, Paul is a keen runner.
