About Mrs Kalpana Devalia
Mrs Kalpana Devalia is a Consultant General, Upper Gastrointestinal, Bariatric and Robotic Surgeon at Cleveland Clinic London. She treats the full range of general and upper-GI conditions — including all types of hernia, gallstones and gallbladder disease, acid reflux, hiatus hernia and abdominal pain — as well as obesity, offering both keyhole (laparoscopic) and robotic-assisted techniques and choosing the approach best suited to each patient’s condition, safety and recovery.
Her surgical practice includes laparoscopic and robotic hernia repair (inguinal, umbilical, incisional and hiatus), laparoscopic and robotic gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy), anti-reflux surgery, and diagnostic and therapeutic upper-GI endoscopy (gastroscopy). In bariatric and metabolic surgery she performs sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass (Roux-en-Y), one-anastomosis (mini) gastric bypass and revisional surgery, and she also leads a consultant-delivered medical weight-management service for patients who prefer a non-surgical route.
Mrs Devalia has performed more than 1,000 laparoscopic procedures and has been a Consultant Surgeon at Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust since 2011. She trained in the UK, India and Belgium, graduated from the University of Mumbai in 1989, and holds FRCS qualifications from Edinburgh and Glasgow (2000) and FRCS (General Surgery, 2011). She is a member of the British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society and remains active in research and peer-reviewed publication.
