Biography & Education

About Mr Kash Akhtar

Mr Kash Akhtar is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee injuries and treatments. He has particular expertise in sports injuries, arthroscopic knee surgery, meniscal preservation and transplantation, cartilage repair, knee ligament reconstruction, realignment surgery, and partial and total knee replacement.

Mr Akhtar studied at Imperial College London, graduating with Distinction in Surgery, and completed his specialist fellowship training in knee surgery at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. He was awarded the prestigious Winston Churchill Fellowship, spending six months in leading international centres of orthopaedic excellence across the U.S. He has delivered over 100 international presentations and received numerous prizes and awards for clinical excellence and education.

Alongside his clinical expertise, Mr Akhtar holds two postgraduate degrees in medical education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, reflecting his long-standing commitment to teaching, mentorship and surgical training.

Previously, Mr Akhtar was a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust from 2014 to 2025, working at one of the UK’s busiest tertiary referral centres where he dealt with the most severe knee injuries from across the sector. He also served as Training Programme Director for the Royal London Higher Surgical Training Rotation in Trauma & Orthopaedics from 2017 to 2024.

He is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Orthopaedic Surgery & Surgical Education at Barts and the London School of Medicine & Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London, and Course Director for the International Masters in Orthopaedic Trauma Science. He is also an Honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Mr Akhtar is passionate about innovation and digital education. He is the Lead for Digital Health Education and Innovation at Cleveland Clinic London and founder of the Orthohub podcast.
