About Dr Shameer Mehta

Dr Shameer Mehta is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Lead for Clinical Nutrition at both the Cleveland Clinic London and The Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust.

He trained in London and completed a joint fellowship in translational science at the Blizard Institute, London and medical education at Queen Mary University of London. During this time, he became a fellow of the Higher Education Academy in recognition of his postgraduate teaching work.

Dr Mehta's research investigated the development of intestinal fibrosis in patients with Crohn’s disease. Having been a Consultant Gastroenterologist at University College London Hospital for six years, he moved to The Royal London Hospital as his NHS base where he leads a large multidisciplinary team. He looks after patients with a range of conditions and his primary specialist interests are clinical nutrition (including intestinal failure), inflammatory bowel disease and the gastrointestinal effects of cancer therapies. He has published and presented original work in all of these areas, is an active researcher and educator and was appointed Honorary Associate Professor at University College London in 2017.

At Cleveland Clinic London, Dr Mehta provides compassionate and professional care and is an advocate for shared decision making between patient and physician.
