About Dr Christopher Barringer
Dr Christopher Barringer is a highly experienced consultant who supports people in managing and overcoming long-term pain with advanced, targeted treatments. He specialises in interventional pain medicine and uses the latest techniques to treat complex pain conditions, particularly those that have not responded to standard approaches.
Dr Barringer is committed to helping patients find relief from chronic pain and improve their quality of life. Using precise ultrasound and X-ray (fluoroscopic) guidance, he ensures that treatments are delivered safely and effectively.
For nerve pain that hasn’t improved with other options, he offers advanced treatments such as spinal cord stimulation. For long-standing low back pain, he provides restorative multifidus stimulation (Reactiv8), which retrains and strengthens the deep stabilising muscles of the spine. He also carries out a wide range of radiofrequency procedures – including standard, pulsed, and cooled radiofrequency. Cooled radiofrequency treatments for shoulder and knee pain can bring lasting relief and, in some cases, help patients avoid or delay joint replacement surgery.
He cares for people with many different types of pain, including back and leg pain, neck pain, nerve pain, joint pain, and abdominal or pelvic pain. Patients value his thoughtful, compassionate approach and his ability to find solutions where others may not.
Alongside his private practice, Dr Barringer works at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square (part of University College London Hospitals). There, he is the Lead Consultant in the chronic pain medicine service and enjoys mentoring the next generation of specialists as Faculty Tutor.
