Biography & Education

About Dr John Whitaker

John Whitaker completed his cardiology training in the London Deanery before undertaking a PhD focused on the imaging the substrate for ventricular tachycardia. He completed sub-specialty training in cardiac devices and electrophysiology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust between 2018 - 2020, following which he undertook a fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital from 2020 - 2022. He has been an honorary consultant in cardiology, electrophysiology and devices at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust since 2023.

He has experience in the assessment and management of heart arrhythmias, with a particular expertise in ventricular arrhythmias. He is also a clinical senior lecturer at King’s College London and leads a research program focused predominantly on the optimisation of ventricular arrhythmias through the use of novel imaging techniques and ablation therapies. He has published extensively on the use of imaging to guide VT ablation, novel ablation technologies and advanced electrogram analysis. He is frequently invited to lecture at national and international conferences and regularly delivers teaching for other electrophysiologists on the use of intracardiac echocardiography (ICE).
