About Dr Richard Woolf
Dr Richard Woolf is a Consultant Dermatologist at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (London).
Dr Woolf treats adult patients with general dermatology conditions, including acne, rosacea and skin cancer screening. He is also a specialist in the treatment of eczema and psoriasis. Richard has a holistic approach and involves patients in their treatment decisions.
Dr Woolf qualified as a doctor with a distinction from the University of Bristol in 2006. After completing his general medical training he secured a highly competitive academic training in dermatology based at the St John’s Institute. During this time he completed a MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship and NIHR Academic Clinical Lectureship. Dr Woolf was awarded a PhD in skin immunobiology in 2015 (King’s College London) that focused on aspects of the skin immune system. He was appointed as a substantive NHS Consultant Dermatologist at the St John’s Institute in 2019 and became Clinical Lead for medical dermatology in 2021.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Woolf has a strong interest in dermatology research. He is chief investigator, principal investigator and sub-investigator on multiple clinical trials of new treatments for eczema, psoriasis and related conditions.
He has published in peer-reviewed dermatology journals and has presented his research both nationally and internationally. He is alsoregularly invited to lecture on new treatments for eczema and psoriasis.
Dr Woolf is a passionate teacher and has written multiple text book chapters on a variety of topics in dermatology.
