Biography & Education

About Dr Taryn Youngstein

Dr Taryn Youngstein is a consultant Rheumatologist with a general and specialist NHS practice based at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. She is the Co-Director of the Imperial College London Centre of Excellence for Vasculitis Research and leads the Large Vessel Vasculitis and Rare disease clinic at the Hammersmith Hospital; the largest in the UK.

Dr Youngstein trained at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals where she qualified with distinction in all examinations. She then trained in General Medicine in West London and onto Rheumatology on the prestigious North Thames London rotation. She has a research background in genetics, inflammation, vasculitis and amyloidosis; winning international prizes for her work in amyloid research and inflammation.

Dr Youngstein is an experienced and compassionate rheumatologist who strongly believes in shared decision making with her patients. She practices evidence based medicine and contributes to this evidence base through her research and leading clinical trials in novel immunosuppression (including in COVID-19 pandemic trials of immunosuppression). A particular research interest is in cardiac inflammation and rheumatic diseases of the heart, developing cardio-rheumatology services both locally, nationally and internationally.

Dr Youngstein is an invited speaker at numerous International and National conferences and publishes in the world’s leading medical journals. She regularly teaches and trains in the NHS and at Imperial College London at an undergraduate and postgraduate level.
