Biography & Education

About Dr Angelo Dawson

Dr Angelo Dawson trained at the Guy's, King's, and St Thomas' Hospitals School of Medicine, King’s College London, and completed specialist Neurology training on the Northwest London Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust rotation in 2023.

He is a consultant neurologist with clinical interests in all aspects of general neurology, and a specialist clinical interest in functional neurological disorders (FND), including functional (dissociative) seizures and associated symptoms such as chronic pain and fatigue. He also has extensive clinical and academic experience in neurorehabilitation and his ongoing clinical interests include acute and chronic neurorehabilitation and the management of complex neurological disability including brain and spinal cord injury.

He works at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust where he runs a large NHS general neurology outpatient practice and provides a ward referral neurology consultation service for inpatients, and at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in the regional specialist FND service (FNDExSEL) where he provides a specialist outpatient assessment clinic, complex case MDT and contributes to the regional FND education programme for people with a new or recent diagnosis of FND.

He has an interest in clinical service development and was a Clinical Management Fellow and Lead RMO for Neurorehabilitation at the Wellington Hospital between 2016 and 2020. He holds an Executive MSc in Clinical Management and Medical Leadership from Bayes Business School, City University of London, and a PhD in Neurorehabilitation from the UCL Institute of Neurology, Queen Square. He worked on specialist upper limb neurorehabilitation in the chronic phase of stroke and demonstrated the potential for ongoing motor recovery beyond the initial acute phase with a high-intensity complex rehabilitation intervention and was awarded The Queen Square Annual Prize in Neurology for this work.
