Biography & Education
About Dr Brent Elliott
Dr Brent Elliott is a consultant neuropsychiatrist to the Neurosciences Institute at the Cleveland Clinic London, the Rapid Access and Acute Rehabilitation (RAAR) team at the Royal London Hospital and the Traumatic Brain Injury MDT at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. He is also a liaison psychiatrist to St Bartholomew’s & the Royal London Hospitals where he was service lead and Associate Clinical Director between 2013 and 2023. He was previously an Honorary Consultant Neuropsychiatrist to the Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy between 2011-2016.
He completed his medical training at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospitals medical school in 2001 graduating with distinction in Pathology and Surgery. He then went on to train in psychiatry, initially in East London and later as a higher trainee in general adult and liaison psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital where he also spent a year as neuropsychiatry registrar to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square.
He is a clinical psychiatrist with a particular interest in the management of psychiatric conditions arising in the context of neurological illness, for example traumatic brain injury, stroke, epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease as well as functional neurological disorders. He also has extensive general experience in acute crisis psychiatry through his work within the Royal London Hospital’s Emergency Department and Major Trauma Centre over the past decade.
His research interests relate to the role played by sleep disruption as a precipitating and maintaining factor for psychiatric conditions (and vice versa). He holds an MSc (distinction) in Sleep Medicine from the University of Oxford where he won the Archibald Jackson and Thomas Willis prizes. He is currently a probationer DPhil (PhD) student, also at the University of Oxford, and his research is looking into the relationship between poor sleep quality and mental health after traumatic brain injury and stroke.
