Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery at Cleveland Clinic London

Our team performs a wide range of HPB surgeries. We use minimally invasive techniques whenever possible — so you may recover faster and have smaller incisions, less pain and a lower risk of complications.

Liver surgery

  • Liver resection (hepatectomy). We perform open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery for liver cancer and benign (noncancerous) liver growths, as well as major resections for complex tumours that have spread.
  • Radiofrequency ablation. With this procedure, we use heat to destroy cancerous tissue in small liver tumours.

Pancreatic surgery

  • Pancreatic resection (pancreatectomy). We remove part of the pancreas and possibly the spleen (distal pancreatectomy). Or we remove the entire pancreas, and potentially all or part of other nearby organs (total pancreatectomy).
  • Vascular resection. Our team reconstructs or removes blood vessels where pancreatic cancer has invaded using a highly complex technique that’s not widely available.
  • Pancreatic necrosectomy. During this surgery, we remove dead pancreatic tissue (necrosis) — a serious complication of acute pancreatitis.
  • Whipple procedure. This procedure involves removing the pancreas head and part of the small intestine, bile duct and gallbladder. We then attach the remaining small intestine to any remaining bile duct and pancreas to preserve digestion.
