Spinal Deformity Care at Cleveland Clinic London: Why Choose Us?

Internationally renowned complex spine surgeons guide your care. Our consultants completed training in London’s top teaching hospitals and have performed a high number of adult scoliosis and kyphosis surgeries. They also provide instruction to complex spine surgeons in other top London hospitals. You can count on us for outstanding care at every turn.

Highlights of our programme include:

  • Multidisciplinary approach: You have easy access to all the consultants you may need in one programme. Complex spine surgeons work alongside experienced anaesthetists, neuroradiologists and intensivists (critical care specialists) to optimise your care. Our extended team includes vascular surgeons, cardiologists and pain specialists. An accomplished nursing and therapies team supports and cares for you through your recovery.
  • Seamless care: Spinal deformity experts meet regularly to plan surgeries for complex cases. Our team takes care of all the details that lead to excellent outcomes, making it easier for you to focus on healing.
  • Safety and precision: We use the latest technology to safely navigate delicate spinal tissue during surgery. Cleveland Clinic London uses state-of-the-art CT-guided computer navigation during surgical procedures. We are also one of the only hospitals in the U.K. with an MRI scanner in theatre. These technologies ensure we place spine-straightening hardware at precisely the right spot, resulting in a safer, more effective procedure. Experienced neurophysiology technicians also monitor spinal cord safety during surgery.
  • Appropriate therapies: If you are not eligible for spinal deformity surgery, we have several non-surgical options to help you. We may recommend pain management services, such as electrical stimulation. Our team also includes rheumatologists who help people with kyphosis due to bone weakness (osteoporosis).

Get a Spinal Deformity Assessment

We typically see new patients within two weeks. If you need imaging, X-rays are available on the day of your first appointment. You can receive advanced studies, such as CT scans or MRIs, within a few days. During your second appointment, we provide a personalised treatment plan.

Cleveland Clinic London offers a variety of payment options, including private medical insurance and self-pay services. Our Finance team provides you with a cost estimate, making it easier to plan for your care. Patients coming to us from outside the U.K. receive additional support through Global Patient Services.

Kyphosis and Scoliosis Surgery for Adults: What to Expect

We perform a comprehensive evaluation to assess scoliosis or kyphosis severity. If you have imaging from other spine specialists, we examine it to determine how the curvature is progressing. If you are eligible for surgery, we explain how it can help and discuss the risks and benefits.

Spine deformity specialists discuss your case with the rest of the multidisciplinary team to carefully plan your procedure. After surgery, you start your recovery in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) — one of the most advanced in the U.K. You can expect to be in hospital for one to three weeks after surgery, depending on the complexity of the procedure and your overall health. We get most patients up on their feet the day after surgery.

After your stay in the ICU, we transfer you to our neurorehabilitation unit. Your rehabilitation and recovery progress under the expert care of our nursing and therapy teams. We guide you through a personalised plan that helps you safely get moving again. On-site therapy gyms with the latest rehabilitative technologies give the best chances for achieving your goals.
